Given the high loads including horizontal and tension forces meant that piles were required.
The upper 4.0m was found to be made ground underlain by a layer of Kempton Park Gravel up to 8.0m thick and a stiff layer of London Clay down to 30m.
The proposed solution was to adopt a Eurocode design allowing for load tests on working piles, using 450mm and 900mm CFA piles. The piling works were divided into two main areas.
The works interface with the surrounding rail authorities and the works carried out by our experienced team with piling next to rail infrastructure using a medium size piling rig.
450mm diameter continuous flight auger (CFA) piles were installed up to 23.3m.
In Ariel Way area the concrete used was C32/40 DC-4 and the reinforcement for the piles is 6H20x8m in a H8 helical with 200mm pitch and a central bar 1H40x21.5m for the tension piles.

This area comprised of 900mm diameter piles that were installed up to 27.2 m including probing for obstruction on each pile position.
To achieve this diameter and depth with CFA method, an 80t large rig Soilmec SR75 was successfully used.
In the Restaurant area the concrete used was C28/35 DC-4 and the reinforcement used for the piles is 10H20x10m in H10 at 200mm pitch and various central bars 1D40x18.4m, 1D40x21.3m and 1D47x21.0m.
