Ground Conditions

The upper 1.5m of the ground was found to be fill material, this overlaid a sand and gravel layer which sat upon the London clay which was found at 5.5m depth.

Ground water was identified as laying at 2m depth.

Solution

450mm diameter continuous flight auger (CFA) piles were placed at 300mm centres through a guide wall. To ensure that a ground water seal was created the female piles were installed to 6.5m depth.

The male piles were drilled through the low strength gain mix to 9m and reinforced with 6T20x9m bars in order to support 3.4m of retained soil.
