The high loads including horizontal forces meant that piles were required. The design was carried out and allowed for by Consulting Engineers Capita Infrastructure.
The ignored depth/made ground to 6.5m underlined by stiff the very stiff clays to 18m.
Pile diameters for this project are 600mm & pile depths were 18m as requested with reinforcement for the piles 6H25x10.5m in a H12 helical. Concrete was C35/45, DC-2. The logistical planning for this contract called for an initial mobilisation to site for the first bridge abutment to be piled. Once this was complete ancillary plant to the piling rig was transported by hiab lorries to the other bridge abutment. However the rig tracked some 60m through an alternate traffic managed route to the other-side of the Blakewater river to install piles for the other bridge abutment. The movement plan below shows our course of action.
