Ground Conditions Due to the stiff and dry London clay a contiguous piled wall formed using a rotary technique was determined as the most cost effective solution to form the retaining wall.
The close proximity of the neighbouring structures and the large retained height meant that the 450mm diameter piles placed at 550mm centres needed to be propped in the temporary condition. The reinforced concrete wall and slabs would provide support in the permanent situation. The existing property was in some areas supported by piles that will act as columns and have a free standing height of up to 6m. Therefore additional reinforcement bars were supplied to cater for bending that may be induced.
